“Ollie- our “Velcro dog!” He’s the sweetest boy! He’s a ball of energy. Ollie is super curious, stoic and very loyal. He loves our 4 cats & wants to play all day. One of his favorite things is finding sticks or branches on his walk and carrying it home. His background: He was saved from an Alabama high- kill shelter and transported up to Chicago. We adopted him when he was about 11 weeks old from The Anti-Cruelty Society. We were so curious about his breed & so happy with the Embark DNA results!”

C2

Ollie’s Haplogroup

C2 is a very old female lineage found more commonly among English Setters, English Bulldogs, and American Eskimo Dogs. We also see C2 in village dogs in South Asia. Rather than having a few characteristic breeds representing this lineage particularly well, it is present in a few uncommon individuals of many different breeds. Unlike some European breed lineages that have seen skyrocketing popularity along the path to the modern dogs we see today, C2 tends to reflect the deep history of man's best friend.

C42/54/55

Ollie’s Haplotype

Part of the C2 haplogroup, this haplotype occurs most frequently in mixed breed dogs.

A2b

Ollie’s Haplogroup

A2b appears to have split a few times in succession, which means that some of the Central Asian male ancestors of this lineage went their separate ways before their respective Y chromosomes made their rounds. There is not much diversity in this lineage, meaning that it has only begun to take off recently. Two iconic breeds, the Dachshund and Bloodhound, represent this lineage well. Over half of Rottweilers are A2b, as are the majority of Labrador Retrievers and Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. While A2a is restricted mostly to East Asia, this paternal line is also found among European breeds.

Hc.2

Ollie’s Haplotype

Part of the A2b haplogroup, this haplotype has been found in Chinese Shar-pei and village dogs in Papua New Guinea.

Some other Embark dogs with this haplotype:

A2b is found in the Daschund breed.
